Cracovie, connue pour ses \u00e9glises, elle en compte plus de 120, reste le centre culturel et scientifique de la Pologne. C\u2019est surtout la patrie d\u2019un archev\u00eaque de la ville \u00e9lu pape, puis canonis\u00e9. Le site se trouve sur la colline du Wawel qui domine le fleuve la Vistule en contrebas. C\u2019est tout un complexe architectural construit au fil des si\u00e8cles au sommet d\u2019une colline de calcaire \u00e0 Cracovie, \u00e0 228m au-dessus du niveau de la mer. C\u2019est l\u00e0 o\u00f9 se trouvent le ch\u00e2teau royal, des mus\u00e9es, des \u00e9difices administratifs\u2026 Pendant des si\u00e8cles, le Wawel \u00e9tait le centre du pouvoir eccl\u00e9siastique et monarchique de la Pologne, du XI<sup>e<\/sup> au XVI<sup>e<\/sup> si\u00e8cle, avec Cracovie comme capitale. Dans son journal elle raconte qu\u2019elle a vu dans le purgatoire J\u00e9sus et Marie et pr\u00e9cise les demandes que le Christ lui a transmises. La Barbacane, d\u2019architecture gothique, \u00e9difi\u00e9e \u00e0 la fin du XV<sup>e<\/sup> si\u00e8cle en raison du danger des invasions turques, est jusqu\u2019\u00e0 ce jour parfaitement conserv\u00e9e. L\u2019ouvrage est construit en briques \u00e0 l\u2019exception des consoles soutenant les galeries et les tourelles, b\u00e2ties en pierre. La galerie est dot\u00e9e d\u2019ouvertures dans le plancher par lesquelles on pouvait arroser les attaquants d\u2019eau bouillante ou de goudron.
