A 2 ans, il tombe malade, et comme son \u00e9tat de sant\u00e9 demeure sans am\u00e9lioration jusqu\u2019\u00e0 l\u2019\u00e2ge de 6 ans, sa m\u00e8re d\u00e9cide de l\u2019emmener \u00e0 Beyrouth. Au Liban, il est scolaris\u00e9 chez les P\u00e8res J\u00e9suites au Coll\u00e8ge Notre-Dame de Jamhour, jusqu\u2019\u00e0 la fin des \u00e9tudes secondaires. A 16 ans, il suit au Coll\u00e8ge Stanislas et au Lyc\u00e9e Saint-Louis, \u00e0 Paris, les classes pr\u00e9paratoires avant d\u2019int\u00e9grer, en 1974, la fameuse Ecole Polytechnique, puis l\u2019Ecole des Mines de Paris, dont il obtient les dipl\u00f4mes d\u2019ing\u00e9nieur. En 1978, Carlos est recrut\u00e9 chez Michelin, le g\u00e9ant europ\u00e9en de pneus. Une carri\u00e8re de 18 ans durant lesquels il suit une formation dans les usines en France et en Allemagne. En 1981, il est nomm\u00e9 directeur de l\u2019usine du Puy-en-Velay et devient, en 1985, responsable du d\u00e9partement de recherche sur les pneus industriels et agricoles au centre de recherche Michelin de Ladoux, Puy-de-D\u00f4me. Nomm\u00e9 responsable des op\u00e9rations Michelin au Br\u00e9sil, il est charg\u00e9, en 1985, de redresser une situation difficile due \u00e0 un contexte \u00e9conomique d\u00e9favorable et \u00e0 l\u2019inflation. Carlos \u00e9labore un plan de redressement fond\u00e9 sur une restructuration s\u00e9v\u00e8re exigeant la fermeture de deux usines et la r\u00e9duction des effectifs, deux principes fondamentaux qu\u2019il appliquera dans tous ses plans de r\u00e9forme. Mais l\u2019organisation rigide et les barri\u00e8res culturelles repr\u00e9sentaient \u00e0 ses yeux des obstacles beaucoup plus importants que la situation \u00e9conomique. Des \u00e9quipes de gestion de diff\u00e9rentes nationalit\u00e9s et cultures sont alors form\u00e9es pour trouver les solutions les plus efficaces. En deux ans, les op\u00e9rations de Michelin au Br\u00e9sil retrouvent leur rentabilit\u00e9. Les bases du style de gestion multiculturel de Carlos sont \u00e9tablies. En 1989, nomm\u00e9 pr\u00e9sident et responsable des op\u00e9rations de Michelin en Am\u00e9rique du Nord, il s\u2019installe avec sa famille \u00e0 Greenville, en Caroline du Sud, et planifie, un an apr\u00e8s, l\u2019absorption d\u2019Uniroyal Goodrich par Michelin. La fusion avec Uniroyal est lourde de dettes pour le groupe fran\u00e7ais, mais Carlos op\u00e8re une restructuration s\u00e9v\u00e8re, dont une r\u00e9duction drastique des effectifs. Le r\u00e9sultat est surprenant: Michelin devient le plus grand fabricant de pneus au monde.<\/p>\n<p>En 1996, Carlos int\u00e8gre Renault en tant que directeur g\u00e9n\u00e9ral adjoint, responsable des activit\u00e9s du groupe dans le Mercosur. En 1993, le groupe avait \u00e9chou\u00e9 dans ses n\u00e9gociations de fusion avec Volvo et perdait des parts de march\u00e9, affichant un d\u00e9ficit de quelque 6 milliards de francs fran\u00e7ais. Carlos dresse un plan draconien de r\u00e9duction de co\u00fbts, d\u2019augmentation de la gamme de voitures et des mesures d\u2019adaptation des effectifs. D\u00e9but 1998, le constructeur fran\u00e7ais annonce un b\u00e9n\u00e9fice de 5,4 milliards de francs et en juillet 2000, Renault et Volvo signent un accord de cr\u00e9ation de Volvo Global Trucks, devenu le deuxi\u00e8me groupe mondial de constructeurs de camions.<\/p>\n<p>Pour former l\u2019Alliance Renault-Nissan, Ghosn g\u00e8re en 1999 la prise de participation de Renault dans Nissan \u00e0 raison de 36,8%, tout en gardant son poste chez Renault. Nomm\u00e9 pr\u00e9sident en 2000 et P.D.G. en 2001, il devient la quatri\u00e8me personne de nationalit\u00e9 \u00e9trang\u00e8re \u00e0 diriger un constructeur automobile japonais apr\u00e8s Mark Fields pour Ford, Henry Wallace et James Miller pour Mazda. A cette \u00e9poque, Nissan Motors \u00e9tait au bord de la faillite, avec une dette nette de 2,1 billions de yens (plus de 20 milliards de dollars). En octobre 1999, Ghosn s\u2019engage dans un plan de redressement de Nissan visant un retour \u00e0 la rentabilit\u00e9 d\u00e8s 2000, une marge op\u00e9rationnelle de plus de 4,5% du chiffre d\u2019affaires et la r\u00e9duction de 50% de la dette en 2002. En cas d\u2019\u00e9chec, il d\u00e9missionnerait avec le Conseil d\u2019administration. Ghosn prend des d\u00e9cisions jug\u00e9es r\u00e9volutionnaires au Japon: implication de tous les employ\u00e9s dans des groupes de travail pour trouver des solutions \u00e0 l\u2019interne, politique de performance plut\u00f4t que les postes \u00e0 vie, r\u00e9duction de 14% des effectifs, fermeture de cinq usines japonaises avec cession des actifs. En d\u00e9pit d\u2019une conjoncture internationale d\u00e9favorable, le groupe annonce en 2000 une exploitation en hausse de 134%. En 2003, la dette est enti\u00e8rement rembours\u00e9e et un deuxi\u00e8me plan triennal fait de la firme japonaise l\u2019un des groupes les plus rentables au monde avec un b\u00e9n\u00e9fice de 3,8 milliards d\u2019euros.<\/p>\n<p>En 2001, Carlos Ghosn est P.D.G. de Nissan et le 6 mai 2009, pr\u00e9sident du Conseil d\u2019administration de Renault. En octobre 2016, il est nomm\u00e9 pr\u00e9sident du Conseil d\u2019administration du groupe Mitsubishi Motors, visant \u00e0 redresser le groupe japonais. D\u00e9sormais, l\u2019association de Renault, Nissan et Mitsubishi se situe au 4<sup>e <\/sup>rang mondial des constructeurs automobiles, apr\u00e8s Toyota, Volkswagen AG, et General Motors. Ainsi dix-neuf ans apr\u00e8s son arriv\u00e9e chez Renault, dix-sept ans apr\u00e8s sa prise de pouvoir chez Nissan, ce chef d\u2019entreprise, patron charismatique et ambitieux, est bel et bien le seul ma\u00eetre chez lui.
